Prior to joining Bank Asia PLC, Mr. Hussain led two prominent private commercial banks in the country: Meghna Bank PLC as Managing Director & CEO from 2020, and City Bank PLC as Managing Director & CEO from 2013 to 2019. Under his leadership, the banks received several national and international awards, including the DHL – The Daily Star Bangladesh Business Award, CMAB Best Corporate Award, Finance Asia Best Bank Award, and Global Finance World’s Best Digital Bank awards, among others.
Starting his career at ANZ Grindlays Bank, Mr. Hussain worked in various capacities and leadership positions at Standard Chartered and Eastern Bank PLC during his illustrious 33+ year career.
Mr. Hussain is versatile, skilled, and experienced in various fields of banking, including re-engineering banks, developing and executing strategic plans, corporate banking, SME banking, green banking, retail banking, infrastructure financing, digital solutions, centralized operations, Islamic banking window operations, card business, treasury, agent banking, equity and quasi-equity transactions, redefining strategies, mergers & acquisitions, advisory & structured finance transactions, and bringing in strategic equity investors.
Mr. Hussain is a Notre Dame alumnus and holds an MBA from IBA, Dhaka University. He has participated in numerous training courses, seminars, and symposiums both in the country and abroad. He is well-connected with a number of institutional bodies and is active in social initiatives.
